Dr. David Beede
David K. Beede is professor emeritus and former C. E. Meadows Endowed Chair of Dairy Management and Nutrition in the Department of Animal Science at Michigan State University. He received a BS in animal science (Colorado State University), an MS in beef cattle nutrition (University of Nebraska), and a PhD in ruminant nutrition and metabolism (University of Kentucky). Beginning in 1980 (first at the University of Florida and, then in 1994, at Michigan State University), he engaged in research, teaching, and extension/outreach efforts aimed to coalesce aspects of dairy cattle nutrition, management, and the environment with efficient use of resources for ecologically sustainable dairy systems. He’s published over 200 book chapters, conference proceedings and refereed journal articles, and mentored 21 graduate students and postdoctoral associates. He served one term as section editor for physiology and management and one term for nutrition for the Journal of Dairy Science (JDS), and was on the Editorial Boards of JDS and Journal of Animal Science. He was Editor-in-Chief of the 3rd edition of the Large Dairy Herd Management (eBook) released in June 2017 by the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA). He served on the ADSA Board of Directors and President, and Director on the Federation of Animal Science Societies Board. Beede is board certified in animal nutrition in the American College of Animal Sciences, American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists.
